A Child is Born Today

A child’s been born today, Lord,

She’s come to grace the earth, 

My daughter’s, daughter’s, daughter,

Great love welcomed this birth!

She’ll come to know you well, Lord,

With You, she will abide,

Her Mom and Dad, will teach her well, 

And You will be her Guide. 

Her love will be her beauty,

Her light will shine so true,

She’ll be a true reflection, 

Of life well-lived with You. 

I haven’t held her yet, Lord, 

Because we‘re miles apart,  

Yet she’s as close as she can be,

She’s right within my heart! 

My Mother and my Grandmother,

My aunts and sisters, too,

My daughter, grand, and now a great—

Transcendent love flows through!

Of course, Lord,  I’m not forgetting,

The Dad’s along the way,

Honoring the men most fully, 

For the vital part they play!

My heart is filled with joy this day, 

My gratitude to You,

For helping my sweet granddaughter,

Bear the birth pains she went through.

In closing of this ‘birthday’ poem,

I state what you have shown,

Always we’re together, 

Never, am I alone.
